In the first few years, the thirty-five enterprise boards were seen by many as no more than grant agencies. In contrast, the Board Members of the NCEB saw the greater long term potential for roles such as that of [1] provider of support services to existing, new and potential Business Owners; [2] local culture change agent promoting a pro-business culture; and [3] local business lobby group.
To these ends, the Board Members identified and implement these Four Key Activities

01. The first priority of the Executives is to meet quietly in The Enterprise Office or on site with existing, new and future Business Owners, who were starting or growing their own business. About forty of these one-to-one consultations take place each month.
A 'first port of call' business information and guidance service is offered - giving support and guidance in the development of business proposals; in the planning of marketing strategies; in networking; in sourcing new linkages, contacts, research facilities; …
02. Side by side with that one-to-one mentoring, the NCEB offer Business Training Programmes, support a Business Degree Programme and deliver our Schools Business Programme.
03. In addition to these and because the Board Members have always been so determined to promote a pro-business culture in the North Cork Region, the Executives place major emphasis on business networking and on initiating and promoting networking in the five local areas.
On this basis, the Board Members and Executives currently support the ongoing work of two existing business groups - Blackwater Valley Tourism and the newly accredited Mallow Chamber.
